The Caribbean Series: Grenada – Part II

If you missed Part I you can read it over here.

On Sunday 5th July we hired a car to explore more of the island. We visited the Belmont Estate for a tour of chocolate making and to learn more about Grenadian agriculture. This was definitely worth a visit as we were able to taste the cocoa plant, eat fresh mangoes, walk up and down cocoa beans to turn them over in the sun as well as taste real chocolate (the hot chocolate drink was soooo good 😍).

We started with the tour and saw all of the fruit trees and even got to taste the coca bean plant (it strangely tasted of a mixture of pineapple, mango and sweet fruits).

We learnt all about how the cocoa bean is picked and transformed into the chocolate and cocoa we see today.

I had a delicious goat’s cheese salad at their restaurant, mmm…

We then went to the museum:

We got to try some 60% and 70% dark chocolate as well as a chocolate drink – they all tasted really good.

Our next stop had to be the chocolate shop…

I bought two bars of 60% dark chocolate ‘cacao nibs’, 70% dark chocolate and 60% salty dark chocolate.

After our time at the estate, we drove to one of the nicest and biggest beach in Grenada: Grand Anse Beach.

My sister had some fun messing about:

It was our last night at the resort and we had a lovely barbecue by the pool. The sunset was beautiful!

The next day we went on a half-day private tour to explore the rest of the island before catching an evening flight to Antigua for the next leg of our journey. Our driver was funny and very knowledgable.

We visited lots of places and:
– swam in a waterfall
– drank + ate a coconut
– fed monkeys
– visited a rainforest, volcanic lake and nutmeg factory

Grenada is one of my favourite Caribbean islands out of the ones I’ve visited – I would definitely go back again and again! The people are so, so friendly and very proud of their country and the actual island is so beautiful. It’s very green and pretty and what’s more, tourism hasn’t taken over! If you’re considering a trip to the Caribbean, definitely, definitely have a look at Grenada!

Stay tuned for my Antigua post later this week ❤️

Peace and love,
