If We Were Having Coffee… | Vol. 18

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m currently in Kraków – crazy, huh?! I wanted to go abroad somewhere; I wanted to explore a new place and so when my uni friends told me to meet them in Kraków, when my mum told me to “just go” and when my good friend Matthew wanted also wanted a spontaneous trip, we just booked it. And here we are…

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that helping out at interviews at Oxford was really enjoyable. It was lovely to meet the prospective applicants and see what the cohort of Classicists were like. I’m excited to find out who will be given an offer for next October! Besides meeting the candidates, the student helpers all had a good time and it allowed for inter-year bonding.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m on the bus home from Auschwitz. It’s somewhere I definitely wanted to come and see but I was worried I wouldn’t be ready. I can’t formulate my thoughts and feelings into words as of yet so you may not get a blog post immediately.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’ve recently found myself feeling extremely exhausted (this is probably due to the spontaneous travel I’ve been doing) but I’m also feeling really hot. I hope this isn’t anything serious but my face is boiling hot while the rest of my body is cold?! 😕

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that the last week of term at Oxford flew by and most people were pretty fed up with the continuous workload. Deadlines for most subjects was on the Wednesday so the following two days were spent enjoying Oxford and the social life {though I didn’t finish until 4:40pm on the Friday!}

If we were having coffee, I would tell you how I’m beginning to panic about the work I’ve been set over the vacation. I have a Collection {Oxford’s word for papers taken at the beginning of new terms to check we’ve been doing work over the holiday…} in Latin for 3 hours which I need to revise for. I haven’t touched Latin in about three weeks so that’ll be interesting *cries* and then I’ve been set individual work from my tutors – reading all of Book 1 of The Aeneid in Latin for one – which will also take lots of time. I’m trying not to worry too much but it just means I need to get on with work as soon as I get back to the UK!

Week 2 at Oxford University

Tell me…

  • When was the last time you were spontaneous?
